The word “sver”, is an expression from Røros which is used for something large and lovely, or stout and impressive. SVER is a relatively young group who have already managed to make a name for themselves with a critically acclaimed CD, second place in a national battle of the band competition, a final place in both Rikskonsertene’s major campaign INTRO-folk 2007 and NRK’s EBU competition in 2008. 2009 have been the highlight so far for the band with concerts at Grüne Woche in Berlin, Vossajazz, Førde festival, several festivals in Sweden and participation as Norway’s representatives in the EBU festival in Cologne in October.

The music is defined by a high energy level, tight interaction and creative and modern arrangements that add a new and appealing expression to Norwegian folk music. This is one of folk music’s “powerband”, who deliver rhythmic drive and a contagious joy of playing. They’re hard at work with a new album which according to plan comes out in May 2010.

“It’s a high energy group whose modern adaptations of traditional music not only illustrated the trajectory on which some Scandinavian jazz musicians are travelling, but also gave insight into the rhythmic feel of the music, the extravagant syncopations and intricate subdivisions of the beat that could also be heard in the work of several of the Norwegian drummers. Amazing.” (www.jazz.com)
