Delegate Guide for the Live Music Sector

2022

Covid hit the Live business hard, and a war in Europe, not to mention inflation, haven’t helped, so we’ll be hosting ‘State of...’ talks about live music in general and festivals themselves. If you’re in the live business, what’s changed since pre-pandemic times, and what are the new challenges? Holland’s electronic festival Dekmantel will talk about how to make a multi-layered, ‘tentacle spreading’, cutting edge festival the Dutch way.

Scandinavians can follow discussion of live music with a panel about the pressures on its economy. by:Larm will look at booking a European tour in the post-pandemic era, while another panel will revisit the always urgent, evergreen question: why’s it so hard to book female artist? It’s the 2020s, not the 1950s.

A study of showcase festivals as gatekeepers, promoters and tastemakers has recently been conducted with by:Larm, one of Northern Europe’s biggest and most important, as the case study. Though this and the study are in Norwegian, here’s an open question to all attendees: with the Scandinavian market one of the world’s biggest exporters and Scandinavians – as other studies have concluded – among the world’s most influential tastemakers, is by:Larm one of the best or worst of these events?
