In conversation with Nazneen Khan-Østrem, Journalist and Author.
Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie has been one of the most legendary UK musicians ever since his start back in the 80s. Now he’s coming to by:Larm 2021 to tell his story.
His upcoming autobiography Tenement Kid charts Gillespie’s journey from Glasgow’s working class suburbs, through his short but important stint as the drummer for The Jesus & Mary Chain on their landmark album Psychocandy (1985) before he eventually assembles his own outfit, Primal Scream. With the album Screamadelica (1991), Gillespie and Primal Scream transformed popular music forever, and many credit the album with “starting the 90s”.
Tenement Kid will be in stores October 28th, but a few weeks before the book is out, Bobby Gillespie will join us in conversation at by:Larm 2021’s conference programme! Gillespie will give the by:Larm audience an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of his early days, when his groundbreaking music with Primal Scream catapulted the world from the punked-up 80s to the acid house hedonism of the 90s – and we’re bound to hear some great stories along the way.
