Books - The New Rock and Roll!

About

Presented by by:Larm

Biographies, memoirs, genre histories, label tales and album analysis. The past 15 years have seen a golden age for the publication of books on music. From grand narratives like Simon Reynolds’ Rip it Up and Start Again to female perspectives from Viv Albertine, Kim Gordon and Cosey Fanni Tutti, there have never been more opportunities to read in-depth personal stories and deeply researched music history.

English publisher Lee Brackstone is the commissioning editor of all of the above books, and many more. Formerly an editor at the legendary publisher Faber and Faber where his authors included Jon Savage, Paul Morley, Simon Reynolds, Barney Hoskyns and more, in 2020 he left to set up his own publishing imprint White Rabbit Books, dedicated to fiction and non-fiction books with a direct or indirect connection to music. His acclaimed titles so far include Sing Backwards and Weep by Mark Lanegan, The Foghorn’s Lament by Jennifer Lucy Allan, Remain in Love by Talking Heads’ Chris Frantz, and forthcoming memoirs by Steve Van Zandt and Bobby Gillespie.

In conversation with author Rob Young, hear Lee’s crazy tales from the publishing world, working with celebrity writers and the importance of music books today.
