Til tross for å ha vokst opp i rivaliserende nabobygder, har Johanne Flottorp (hardingfele) og Åsmund Solberg (gitar) nå spilt sammen over halve livet. Fra å diskutere det beste lokale idrettslaget og om det var best å ha ekorn eller bever i kommunevåpenet, har temaet (i stor grad) dreid over til å finne de beste slåttene fra hjemtraktene. Som duo har Flottorp og Solberg gitt ut to album, Heimespel i 2020 og Fiskaren i 2024. Begge albumene ble nominert til Spellemann, og i april i år tok de med seg den store munnharpa hjem.
Duoen spiller i hovedsak tradisjonelle hardingfeleslåtter fra Agders indre bygder og viser hvorfor denne musikken overlever generasjon etter generasjon. I slåttenes komplekse form og harmonikk finnes det et rytmisk driv som bygger på det menneskelige i oss. Dette, i full strid med big tech og kommersielle normer, er noe Johanne Flottorp og Åsmund Solberg forsøker å forlenge og ikke forandre.

Despite growing up in rival neighboring villages, Johanne Flottorp (Hardanger fiddle) and Åsmund Solberg (guitar) have now been playing together for more than half their lives. From debating the best local sports team and whether the municipal coat of arms should feature a squirrel or a beaver, their focus has (mostly) shifted to uncovering the finest traditional tunes from their home region. As a duo, Flottorp and Solberg have released two albums, Heimespel in 2020 and Fiskaren in 2024. Both were nominated for a Spellemann Award, and in April this year, they brought home the prestigious Munnharpa (Jew’s harp) award.
The duo mainly performs traditional Hardanger fiddle tunes from the rural inland areas of Agder, showcasing why this music continues to endure through generations. Within the complex forms and harmonies of the tunes lies a rhythmic pulse that speaks to something deeply human. In direct opposition to big tech and commercial norms, Johanne Flottorp and Åsmund Solberg aim not to change this tradition, but to carry it forward.
