Joseph Kamaru (aka KMRU) is a sound artist and experimental ambient musician, raised in Nairobi, Kenya. Currently based in Berlin, he is a student at Universität der Künste Berlin for sound Studies and Sonic Arts Master's Program. His works deal with discourses of field recording, improvisation, noise, ambient, machine learning, radio art and expansive hypnotic drones.
He has earned international acclaim – in a April 2021 feature interview for Pitchfork, Philip Sherburne stated that KMRU «is carving out a unique place in electronic music.» Bandcamp also issued a comprehensive guide to his music through their editorial platform.
He has previously presented his works at Nyegenyege Festival, Mutek Montreal, unsound, GAMMA, CTM and many more. Now, by:Larm will experience it as well.

Joseph Kamaru (aka KMRU) kommer opprinnelig fra Kenyas hovedstad Nairobi, men bor for tida i Berlin. Her lager han eksperimentell ambient ved siden av å studere lydkunst ved kunstakademiet. Arbeidet hans kretser rundt feltopptak, improvisasjon, noise, ambient, radio og hypnotiske droner.
KMRU har mottatt internasjonal anerkjennelse, med blant annet store feature-oppslag i Pitchfork og Bandcamp. Han har tidligere vært å se på Nyegenyege, Mutek Montreal, unsound, Gamma, CTM – og nå by:Larm i Oslo!
