Hot off the press, Paul Gorman’s new book The Wild World of Barney Bubbles celebrates the graphic design genius whose work linked the optimism of the 60s to the sardonic art that accompanied the explosion of punk. Bubbles both defined the look of the British psychedelic movement and helped to establish the aesthetic of the new wave. His work includes designing album covers for The Damned, Hawkwind and Elvis Costello, and directing the music video for The Specials’ iconic hit “Ghost Town”. When it comes to British graphic design and music packaging, we think of Peter Saville and Malcom Garrett. How come Bubbles - a great influence on the work of Saville and Garrett - has been almost ignored?

This month Gorman also publishes Totally Wired: The Rise & Fall of the Music Press, a study of the media sector which grew from humble beginnings 100 years ago to become a multi-billion dollar global business.

Paul Gorman is a writer whose journalism has appeared in many of the world's leading publications. His books include The Life & Times of Malcolm McLaren, The Story of The Face, Straight with Boy George and Nine Lives with Goldie.
